|
Low Crag Farm is situated in the heart of Teesdale, close to the Pennine Way, 3 miles from the market town of Barnard Castle, in the historic county of Durham. The farm occupies 184 acres (74.5 hectares) at the foot of the Crag, an outcrop of millstone grit which in the past was extensively quarried for gateposts, building stone and millstones. |
|
The farm, in a rather run down condition, was acquired in 1981 by the Coggins family who have carried out a continuous programme of improvements under the supervision of the principal farmer Nick Coggins. In 1993 the farm was accepted into the DEFRA Countryside Stewardship Scheme which promotes the combination of good farming practice with environmental protection. There is public access to most of the land, footpaths have been added, trees planted and dry-stone walls rebuilt. Visitors are always welcome. The Lartington Lamb farm also has a beef enterprise.
